How to make Onion Pakoda | Crispy onion Pakoda | Onion Pakora Recipe

Pakora

Onion pakoda is one of the famous street foods in India. A fresh onion mixed with some spices that are coated with gram flour and fried in oil gives us crunchy and flavourful pakodas. This is almost everyone’s favourite recipe and we are no exception. My husband loves this very much, whenever I ask him what you want me to do for snack, his first reply would be onion pakoda.

You can serve this with tomato ketchup.

Ingredients :  ( 1 cup = 240 ml )

3 medium size Onion, thinly sliced

2 to 3 Garlic cloves, crushed or finely chopped

1 inch Ginger, finely chopped

Few curry leaves

2 tbsp mint leaves, chopped

4 green chilli, chopped

1 tsp red chilli powder

1 tsp fennel seeds

1 cup gram flour

¼ cup rice flour

1 tbsp oil + oil for deep fry

Salt to taste

 

Preparation

  • In a large bowl add thinly sliced onion and add some salt, then squeeze the onion till it releases moisture
  • Then add crushed garlic, ginger, green chilli, few curry leaves, mint leaves and give it a nice mix
  • Add gram flour and rice flour and mix well
  • Also add red chilli powder and fennel seeds and mix till all the ingredients combine well
  • If onion do not leave much water to make a dough then sprinkle some water,1 tbsp oil and mix all ingredients well
  • Take some portion of mixture and drop in to the hot oil and fry until golden brown in medium flame
  • Finally fry some curry leaves in the same oil for garnishing
  • Now onion pakoda is ready to serve

 

Note

  • Do not add too much of water, just sprinkle the water and mix, otherwise it may not be crispy
  • Water is not necessary if onion releases enough moisture to make pakoda

  5. If onion do not leave much water to make a dough then sprinkle some water and mix all ingredients well.sprinkle water
  6. Also add 1 tbsp oil and mix it, to make more crispy.Oil
  7. Take some portion of mixture and drop in to the hot oil and fry until golden brown in medium flamefry
  8. Finally fry some curry leaves in the same oil for garnishing.pakora
