Paneer Peas Masala | Matar Paneer recipe | Side dish for roti or chapati

Paneer Peas masala is a gravy recipe which can be had along with Indian breads like roti, chapathi, naan and paratha. Both Paneer and Peas are rich in protein. This recipe is famous in north part of India. Now, let’s get into the recipe,

 

Ingredients: (1 cup = 240ml )

For onion tomato paste:

1 tbsp oil

1 onion, roughly chopped

1 tsp ginger garlic paste

2 tomatoes, roughly chopped

For gravy:

1 tbsp oil

1 bay leaf

½ tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp kashmiri chilli powder

¾ tsp coriander powder

¼ tsp turmeric powder

Salt to taste

½ cup green peas

½ tsp garam masala

200 gms paneer, cubes

½ tsp kasuri methi

1 inch ginger julienne

Few coriander leaves

Water as required

 

Preparation:

  • For onion tomato paste: heat a kadai add oil, onion and cook the onion till it turns soft
  • Add ginger garlic paste and sauté well
  • Add tomato and cook till it turns soft and mushy
  • Allow it to cool down, then grind into fine paste
  • For gravy preparation: heat oil in a kadai and add bay leaf and cumin seeds
  • Add chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder in to the oil(flame should be low, otherwise it may get burnt)
  • Add grinded onion tomato paste, salt and mix well
  • Cook this until the oil separates from the sides of the pan
  • Then add water to adjust consistency
  • Add ½ cup green peas, gram masala and mix well; cook this for two to three minutes
  • Add paneer cubes and cook for five minutes in simmer
  • Finally add crushed kasuri methi, coriander leaves and ginger.

Paneer peas masala is ready to serve!!

Notes:

  • You can also add green chilli for this recipe to make it spicier.
  • Adding cream at the end gives richness to the gravy and also enhances the taste
